The are a few treatments for swine flu, but the most common is vaccination. There are two types of vaccines: the flu shot and the a nasal spray. However, like almost all other diseases there are some side-effects. Side effects of the flu shot include: muscle aches, low grade fever, redness, soreness, minor swelling at the site of injection and nausea. These symptoms usually last less than 24 hours. Side effects of the nasal spray include: vomiting, headache, cough, sore throat, fever, and runny nose.
It is reported that some antiviral agents could reduce the effects of or even prevent swine flu. They are zanamivir (Relenza) and oseltamivir (tamiflu). However it is not recommended to use them if the swine flu symptoms have been present longer than 48 hours. Pregnant women should not use these agents. An antiviral agent is a chemical which kills viruses.
